Overview of the Alliance Defending Freedom group
The Alliance Defending Freedom is an organization that fights and supports religious freedom, freedom of speech, marriage, family, and parental control. A group of Christians created the organization in the year 1994. Although they were founded by Christians, they support all other faiths whether someone is Muslim, Jews, Mormon, or of other religious faiths. They also support those who are not bound to any specific faith. Alliance Defending Freedom has spoken in public about these matters and worked to stop genocide against Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis. Representatives have spoken on campus to students in support of pro-life, conservationists, libertarians, and the like. Anyone can donate to the organization from their main website. They break down their site into six topics with religious freedom, free speech, the sanctity of human life, parental rights, international work, and supreme court advocacy.
As an advocate for “religious freedom” and a “Christian voice,” Alliance Defending Freedom has close ties to the Family Research Council. ADF was founded in 1994 by several conservative Christian leaders to provide legal assistance to organizations defending religious freedom and the rule of law. Alan Sears and Craig Osten founded the organization in response to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
ADF is all about anyone believing in what they want to believe in, even listening to other viewpoints that others might not agree with. However, the organization does stand by its belief that marriage is between a man and a woman and that God created man as is with there being two distinct genders. They do agree anyone is entitled to do what they want and believe in what they want. They are also big on supporting freedom of speech at colleges and universities. When it comes to the sanctity of human life, they strive to help preserve laws for women and children. The Alliance Defending Freedom even helped a Gulf War veteran be able to walk again on his own through their assistance. The group is big on family and works to help children and parents. The organization works to help people around the world in defending themselves against religious persecution. Lastly, ADF has played a role in about 72 Supreme Court victories.
