Leading The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation- Shelton Haynes
The Roosevelt Operating Corporation was created by the NEW York State in 1984. The administration’s main aim of New York City was to create a corporation responsible for planning, designing, operating, developing and maintaining Roosevelt Island. Roosevelt Island is focused on innovation and bringing environmentally friendly solutions to the Island that will, in turn, benefit the Roosevelt community. The Roosevelt Island administration manages the two-mile-long Island’s roads, parks, buildings, sports facilities, and public transport, including the iconic Roosevelt Island Tramway. Moreover, Roosevelt Island operates a Public Safety Department that helps preserve a safe and secure environment for populations, employees, business owners, and visitors.
Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation made changes to its administration team in March 2021. Shelton Haynes was appointed the company’s President and chief executive officer. Before his appointment, Shelton acted as the interim Chief Executive Officer and the President at the New York City company since June 2020. When Haynes took over the leadership at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, he first studied the unusual personality of the Island and the ins and outs of what it means to manage such an area. Shelton Haynes noted that Roosevelt Island is unique because they manage a small town in the middle of a big state, New York City.
Before becoming an urban hot spot, the Island was known by many names, including Manning’s Island, Blackwell’s Island, and Welfare Island. In 1971, the name was changed to honor the 32nd President of the United States of America, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Shelton is known for his experience in leadership. Before Shelton Haynes established his plans at Roosevelt, he first began with the big projects; the five fire alarms projects. His leadership at the organization came at a challenging period. Shelton Haynes transitioned from interim leader to the official President and Chie Executive Officer during the Covid-19 pandemic. His first assignment was to put up a covid-19 testing center before embarking on his long-term goals for the company.
Mr. Haynes is committed to managing the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. However, he admits that some sectors, like transportation, are new. Haynes is a graduate of Hampton University. Shelton worked at other organizations holding top managerial positions.
