Shelton Haynes- The Mastermind Behind RIOC
Shelton Haynes is the current President and CEO of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC). He was appointed to this position in January 2019 by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Before his appointment, Haynes served as the Senior Vice President for Business Affairs & General Counsel at St. John’s University.
Haynes is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. Haynes has also served on RIOC’s Board of Directors since 2009.
As President and CEO, Haynes oversees all aspects of Roosevelt Island’s operations, including its residential, commercial, and retail properties. He is also responsible for RIOC’s budget and capital planning process.
Shelton Haynes has earned an impressive reputation for being one of the most successful lawyers in the country. Born and raised in a small town in Washington, he developed an early proficiency in problem-solving. After graduating from high school, Shelton studied law at Harvard University before moving back to his hometown to work at a local law firm. Throughout his career, Shelton has provided counsel to some of the greatest minds of our time and worked on landmark cases that have had a tremendous public interest.
