How Thomas Neyhart Started PosiGen

PosiGen is a company that provides energy-efficient products to both the residential and commercial sectors. Its CEO, Thomas Neyhart, is a dedicated entrepreneur passionate about green technology. Neyhart holds an MBA from Cornell University and an MPA from Harvard University.

Serial entrepreneur and businessman Thomas Neyhart has been most notably recognized for his work in renewable energies. He also sits on the board for several organizations, including Bright Now and Renewable Energy Connecticut Inc., where he is responsible for raising money and creating partnerships with other businesses related to renewable energy sources. Thomas Neyhart always had a wide interest in science and economics.

This interest led him to study physics at Princeton before switching majors to management at Cornell University’s College of Business after one year of study there. He started working at General Electric as a financial analyst in the corporate planning department. In 2003, Thomas Neyhart became a senior financial analyst of corporate planning and analysis in the energy fleet business. He thought that he was unlikely to be promoted during his five years in the company, so while still an employee, he founded PosiGen in 2006 to make his way in the business world.

Neyhart founded PosiGen on the principle of designing energy-efficient systems for businesses and homes. To fund his projects, Neyhart participated in the Energy Efficiency Business Plan Competition, hosted by the United States Department of Energy and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. He was awarded $300,000 to start his company from the Energy Efficiency Business Plan Competition. Led by Thomas Neyhart, PosiGen provides products, such as solar panels, specifically designed for their target market, which is households that still use conventional electricity. These systems are further divided into renewable energy collection, efficient electricity systems, and smart home technology.
