Greg Soros and the Art of Premium Podcast Production
Somewhere in Austin’s East Side, inside a converted garage studio, Greg Soros is making the case that podcasting’s future belongs to those who care most about sound. Soros, a podcaster and producer who founded Podcraft Media Lab in 2020, has built one of the audio industry’s most respected boutique production companies by refusing to compromise on quality even when the market was pushing hard in the opposite direction.
The company’s founding came at a telling moment. Greg Soros had just left a senior producer position at a well-known media company, and the podcasting world was in the middle of a content arms race. Networks were expanding, platforms were investing heavily in originals, and the underlying logic was simple: more content, more listeners, more revenue.
Choosing Craft Over Scale
Soros’s response to that environment was to go narrow rather than wide. Podcraft Media Lab would serve fewer clients, but serve them with a level of attention that the industry’s larger players could not match. The decision was grounded in Soros’s own training Berklee College of Music for technical foundations, followed by years of experience at major media organizations and in an honest assessment of where his company could excel.
“We analyzed our strengths and made the strategic decision to focus exclusively on premium podcast production,” Soros has said. The results have been hard to argue with. Fortune 500 companies and independent creators both appear on Podcraft Media Lab’s client list. Some 40% of new business arrives through referrals from within the audio ecosystem, including established podcast networks. Client satisfaction rates remain above 95%.
The Broader Impact
Greg Soros as a podcaster and producer also measures success by what he gives back to the field. His mentorship programs have enabled more than 20 independent podcasts to launch with particular attention to underrepresented creators who might otherwise lack access to high-quality production resources.
“The decision to specialize wasn’t about limiting ourselves,” he has reflected. “It was about being the absolute best at one thing rather than merely adequate at many things.” For Soros, that philosophy has turned a boutique production studio into something the industry genuinely seeks out.
