The Colcom Foundation was born from one woman’s love for the beauty of nature. Cordelia S. May understood the importance of maintaining a balance when it comes to nature. In her early 20s, May was already working to bring awareness regarding human life. It was her concern that led her to become an advocate of family planning.
May understood it was impossible to perceive the daily population growth. She knew that unlimited growth would become overwhelming for the environment. At that moment, she made the impact of human life on the planet her lifelong project. May founded the Colcom Foundation at 68.
Today, the foundation funds many projects that support May’s vision. For example, the foundation supports world organizations that understand how population growth negatively affects the environment. The objective of funding such projects is to prevent the Sixth Mass Extinction. According to ecologists, the Sixth Mass Extinction involves the worldwide degradation of all ecosystems. The only way to stop mass extinction, according to scientists, is to shrink the population.
Colcom Foundation supports the Population Media Center. One way to stop the population from growing is to reduce the number of unwanted births. The Population Media Center entertainment is a way to educate people on how to prevent unwanted pregnancies resulting in unwanted births. May was a powerful advocate for family planning as a method to lower the population rate.
The Colcom Foundation supports several organizations that are working towards sustainable immigrant policies. In the United States, immigrants account for 88 percent of the population growth. The Center for Immigration Studies and Numbers USA, Federation for American Immigration Reform are working to bring the conversation of sustainable immigration to the public.
