Greg Aziz: BLET Has Authorized NJ Transit Strike
The rail situation in New Jersey has taken a dramatic turn in recent days. Railroad industry leader Greg Aziz explains that part of this is due to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET). These members of the Teamsters Rail Conference recently voted on an extremely influential measure. This was to grant BLET National President Eddie Hall the authority to call a strike.
According to insights received from Greg Aziz, this action is set to take place at all locations operated by the New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit) system. This is the nerve center that runs the nation’s third-largest commuter railroad. As a result, threats of a strike have been causing havoc all throughout the entirety of the region.
The disputes, a number of which have proven to be more than normally resistant to mediation, have been ongoing for several years. Matters came to a head this past June. It was at this time that NJ Transit resolved a settlement with the National BLET for the amount of $50,000. However, Greg Aziz adds, this did not prove to be the end of the trouble.
The NJ Transit agency has assured riders that there is a federal court order in place whose purpose is to expressly forbid a strike. But this does not mean that such an action cannot take place; at the moment, it seems riders will be forced to adjust. Greg Aziz and others have done more than their share to resolve these ongoing issues. However, the matter is still set to continue well into the foreseeable future.
