Shelton Haynes
Shelton Haynes is the CEO and President of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), a not-for-profit organization. The RIOC manages the governing and operational activities for the Roosevelt Island neighborhood of New York City. The organization was founded in the year 1971.
Mike Bloomberg, the former Mayor of New York, appointed Haynes as the President and CEO in 2008. Haynes continued to hold these offices even after the former mayor left office. Bloomberg also served as chairperson of both companies from 2007-2013.
Education
Shelton Haynes attended Vassar College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. He then proceeded to Harvard Business School, where he got his MBA.
Career
After finishing his education, Haynes landed a job at AlliedSignal Inc., where he served as the Director of Strategic Planning and Analysis. This was in the year 1995. In 1996, he joined Goldman Sachs as the Vice President of the Corporate Strategy and Business Development team. He served there for two years before leaving to co-found a private equity firm called Mount Kellett Capital Partners LLD with another person.
Investment
The company began its inception with a small fund but grew steadily. Haynes was one of the company’s founding members, is based in London, and has offices in New York. They specialize in Corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions, Corporate finance, Private equity investments, and Venture capital.
Board Memberships
Haynes serves as a Board member of several organizations and is also the Chairman of Mount Kellett Capital Partners LLC and Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. He is also the President of The Roosevelt Island Residents Association and the Chairman of Residential Equity Group, Inc.
Roosevelt Island has become a hot spot to live in, especially for the people working in Midtown Manhattan. The island has been inhabited since the seventies, but it was not until 2000 that an urban neighborhood was officially established in New York City. The island does not have a geographical center or borders.
Haynes is a very well-known person in the New York City real estate scene and has done a fantastic job as the leader of the Roosevelt Island neighborhood. His work has inspired many people, and he is a man who experiments with new ideas and innovation within the community.
