Young Athletes from Repton School Shine at Spanish Tennis Camp

Earlier this year, a group of talented tennis players from Repton School embarked on an enriching journey to the Ferrer Tennis Academy (FTA) in Spain. The trip, held in April 2024, aimed to provide intensive training and exposure to top-tier tennis environments, benefitting 20 of Repton’s promising athletes.

Repton School is renowned for its robust performance tennis programme. With a reputation for nurturing young talent, the school made headlines with its inclusion in various reputed lists recognizing the best UK schools for tennis. The week-long camp at the FTA served as a testament to Repton’s commitment to advancing the athletic and personal growth of its students.

The Ferrer Tennis Academy, founded by Javier Ferrer, offers world-class facilities. Repton’s pupils trained on both clay and hard courts, participating in a rigorous schedule that included matchplay and conditioning sessions. They also experienced Padel tennis, an engaging twist to their training routine. The inclusion of Andrew Richardson, the FTA’s head coach known for guiding Emma Raducanu to her U.S. Open victory, added significant value to their experience.

Repton’s director of tennis, James Rushby, noted the substantial improvements seen in the players’ skills and teamwork. “The exposure to such high-level training environments is invaluable,” Rushby commented, emphasizing the importance of overseas tours in shaping the athletes’ future prospects.

As the students returned to the UK, their experiences in Spain undoubtedly enhanced their readiness for upcoming competitions. Repton School’s dedication to excellence in sports is clear, as it continues to offer its students unparalleled opportunities to develop both on and off the court. The camp in Spain not only honed their technical skills but also cemented their teamwork and resilience, promising a bright future for these young athletes.
