The Work Of Cordelia May And The Colcom Foundation

Cordelia May is a woman who understood and appreciated nature’s beauty and balance. She also recognized the strain the actions that mankind is putting on the earth’s ecosystems is unsustainable. She worried it would have a negative effect on the quality of life of future generations. By 1952, May saw overpopulation as one of the most troubling problems mankind faces. So, some of her early charitable work was aimed at promoting family planning.

In 1996, Cordelia May created the non-profit Colcom Foundation to fund activities to address ecosystem collapse, biodiversity loss, pollution, as well as the destruction of aquatic and terrestrial habitat caused by overpopulation.

Funding Programs In Southwest Pennsylvania

The Colcom Foundation supports a number of projects that help to improve and enrich the quality of life for people who live in southwestern Pennsylvania. The grantmaking of the foundation honors Cordelia May’s humanitarian objectives.

It reflects the deep roots that the foundation has in the region. The group funds a range of efforts that are designed to fix the environmental damage that was done by the work of the region’s history of heavy industry. They fund land trusts to protect high priority properties and preserve open space. They help implement sustainable practices to restore and protect waterways and protect against fossil fuel activity’s harmful environmental impact.

Colcom Foundation’s work has also facilitated proactive environmental advocacy and protection by groups, including the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, WeConservePA, Westmoreland Land Trust, Protect PT, and Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services.

Funding Countless Other Activities Nationwide

With their focus on funding programs that help enhance personal well-being, urban health, and sustainability, the Colcom Foundation plays a significant role. Plus, the programs they fund designed to create sustainable immigration policy reflects the vision of Cordelia May on what it takes to control the nation’s population and its national resources. The Foundation also supports education and internship programs for undergraduate and graduate students as well as countless aspiring artists seeking to refine their artistic skills.
