Greycoat Real Estate Finds UK’s Agents Fees Lowest Among the World’s Leading Property Markets

The team at Greycoat Real Estate has analyzed how the average residential estate agent sales commission. This, in eight major UK property markets compared against their global counterparts.

Research findings show that UK estate agents receive the smallest sales commission across several world-leading real estate markets, leaving the UK with some of the lowest estate agent incomes across the globe. Estate agents covering the Malaysian market are the only group to surpass UK figures. This is when Greycoat comes in.

Recent studies reveal that the highest estate agent commissions are discoverable in France, where the average sales commission is 5.8%. Similarly, real estate agents in the United States and Italy capture average fees of 5.5%. In Spain, Greycoat informs, the typical sales commission is roughly 5%, followed by the UAE at 3%, Malaysia at 2.5%, and Australia at 2.3%.

UK agents, however, find themselves at the bottom of this pack, with the average agent commission scarcely exceeding 1.2% per transaction. This curious disparity emphasizes how UK estate agents are presently challenged to earn a full-time income from their real estate commissions alone. Greycoat´s commission is there to help.

Greycoat Real Estate concludes, after analysis, that these comparatively low estate agent earnings in the UK make it difficult for many of the country’s agents to earn a sustainable income from their sales commissions without another source of revenue.  These insights offer a cautionary take for new agents interested in entering the UK’s real estate industry and underscore the need for further exploration into the factors influencing why estate agent earnings have remained so low in the UK.
